2019 Recap
2019 State of the Group
Hawaii Web Group’s year in review – By Chris Norberg, Project Manager
Again, this has been a “step-back/assess/fix” year. Hawaii Web Group has been working to rebuild strong sites and eliminate/combine poorer-performing sites.
(Also see the State of the Group 2018 report)
Some of the highlights from 2019:
- 1,818,587 users – Hawaii Web Group websites increased in traffic by 1% compared to 2018. Since we’d focused on rebuilding again this last year, we expected a loss of traffic. Turns out things are going really well even with restructuring!
- 838,812 social followers – We had an increase of 13% in followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc… compared to 2018. Some social accounts died (ex. Google+), new ones began (Ex. TikTok).
- 221,543,815 impressions with 10,824,764 engagements on social media. Impressions doubled from last year.
- We sold some sites, combined many others, and we bought a few. Our plan for the future is solid, and you’ll likely see an increase in traffic and social following this next year.
- We more than doubled both our monthly Maui newsletter subscribers to 24,157 and our Facebook Group to 4,367 members.
- We’ve begun a new site to help promote events and experiences. Hawaii Influencers is a project where we use all of our social media to promote fun Maui events. The next one will be with the Maui Film Festival.
What kind of traffic do our sites enjoy?
An overview of the past and present annual absolute unique visitors (now referred to as “users” by Google Analytics.)
Even with restructuring and rebuilding, we’ve managed to increase our traffic a bit. 2020 will be a big year for us. We’re almost finished rebuilding all of our sites. We’ll dive back into upping our quality traffic once they’re up to par.
Hawaii Social Media
Hawaii Web Group’s social media following and current reach.
We expect all of our social audiences and reach to grow significantly this year, with emphasis on Facebook and Instagram.
Our Audience
Hawaii Web Group websites’ audience by gender, age, location, device, and socially.
Obviously, mobile is a big deal now. We’re rebuilding all of our sites to make sure they offer the best mobile experience possible. Our audiences are a nice mix of local and visitors of Maui.
2020 Goals
Hawaii Web Group will continue to build viral content and grow our social audiences. We’re getting so close to finishing up all the rebuilds of our many sites. Once they’re complete, we’ll begin upping our exposure to get quality traffic to our sites and our clients’ sites. 2020 is already off to a great start!
